A hillside gypsy

Bernard Trainor gypsy garden - Ian Barker Gardens

Bernard Trainor has been a team favourite here at Ian Barker Gardens for some time now. His ability to marry the functionality of a garden with its beauty is extraordinary. And what Bernard was able to achieve in his California ‘Gypsy’ project is breathtaking – drawing inspiration from the natural setting and combining it into the design.

This expansive garden, nestled on a steeply sloping hillside is home to an active family of four. The design of the home and the surrounding landscape are united in their crisp lines and bold textures. Native grasses and shrubs bring a flowing textual backdrop to the contemporary home while drawing a connection to the natural diversity inherent in the Californian woodland landscape.
